Just a month before the season, Illinois has added defensive back recruit Fritz Rock to its roster.

Rock, a 6-foot, 200-pounder from Minnesota, was named the MVP of his state championship team as a senior in 2008 before his college debut was delayed for academic reasons.

He was rated a three-star athlete by scouting services Rivals.com and Scout.com and also considered Indiana, Cincinnati and Minnesota.

Rock will be eligible to play in the fall.

“We are extremely excited to add Fritz at this late date,” Illinois head coach Ron Zook said in a statement Friday. “He is an exceptional athlete who has shown great work ethic to get his academics in order.”
