One of several people police believe were throwing rocks at cars on the Edens Expressway–including a state police car–was caught and arrested early this morning, Illinois State Police said.
Shortly after midnight, a motorist reported he thought his car had been struck by gunfire on the Edens near West Lawrence Avenue, according to Trooper Mark Hall.
As troopers were en route to investigate, a rock hit their car, damaging the windshield. Rocks also had damaged the first car, police later found.
Witnesses reported up to three suspects were throwing rocks from a Union Pacific railroad overpass near the Edens, the trooper said.
One male–a minor–was taken into custody. He was cited with trespass to property, but a report on the incident had not yet been completed, a state trooper said about 8 a.m.
In addition to the police car and the initial caller’s vehicle, a truck tractor was damaged by the flying rocks, the trooper said. No one was injured.
Chicago police also responded to the scene of the incident.
