Tanesha Boatright said her son Ryan Boatright is not bitter about his decommitment from West Virginia.
East Aurora’s All-State point guard is once again squarely focused on finding the best situation for himself.
Boatright, who orally committed to West Virginia last Monday only to reconsider after coach Bob Huggins received a commitment from another point guard later in the week, will visit Connecticut, UNLV and Oklahoma, according to his mother.
“Ryan committed first,” Tanesha Boatright said. “Anybody who read anything about it knows how he feels about the school and Coach Huggins, so the situation speaks for itself. I wish the best to Coach Huggins and don’t have anything negative to say about the way it ended up.
“I told my son it doesn’t make a difference who did what and why, just stay focused on what’s ahead. I’m just thankful as a mom he has these options to go to college.”
The 5-foot-10 Boatright, who averaged 26.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.3 steals as a junior, trimmed his list to Providence and West Virginia less than two weeks ago.
But Providence also recently received a commitment from another point guard, which was good news for Connecticut, UNLV and Oklahoma.
Boatright was a Division I recruit before he chose a high school. In 2007, he committed to then- USC coach Tim Floyd a month after graduating from eighth grade but changed his mind after Floyd left the school.
