“Harboring Big Ships”: The La Porte County Historical Society Museum features an exhibit on “Harboring Big Ships: A Pictorial History of the Michigan City Lakefront” in October. The presentation includes models and photos of steamships, sailing ships, captains and crews lakefront scenes from the time when large excursion ships and schooners made their way through the Michigan City, Ind., harbor. Neighborhood bike tours: Big Shoulders Realty and the Active Transportation Alliance are offering a series of bicycle tours through Chicago’s historic neighborhoods. “Lady Lighthouse Keeper”: The LaPorte County Historical Society Museum hosts “Lady Lighthouse Keeper: The Story of Harriet Colfax” at 1 p.m. Oct. 23. Local actress Sandy Gleim will re-enact the life of Harriet Colfax’s “keeper of the kight” for Michigan City’s lighthouse. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
