“The Nutcracker”

????

The best holiday theater brings your family closer together. And there is no show more fervent in that aim than the House Theatre’s warm, wholly original version of “The Nutcracker.” Not a ballet, it’s an emotional drama of one loving family’s recovery from the loss of a child, penned by ensemble members Phillip C. Klapperich and Jake Minton, with a haunting score by Kevin O’Donnell. Armed only with a few friendly toys and a nutcracker made by Uncle Drosselmeyer, Clara sets out to save her parents from grief and save her family’s Christmas. Through Dec. 26 at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St.; $25 at 773-251-2195 or thehousetheatre.com
