This is the Dec. 14th Publisher’s Weekly cover, an annual issue devoted to

African-American books in the current marketplace

I watched both my E-mail inbox and Twitter stream blow up about the issue (check hashtag

) this morning and while I think the photograph is visually interesting, it feels like a choice made in haste for a PW cover.

Let’s talk this out: Is the cover racist, in your opinion? Or just dated-looking? A dumb joke? Too serious a photo to match with the light and punny tone
