A miracle of light shines from Techny Towers this Holiday Season. The old world architecture of Techny Towers can be seen from points in Glenview, Northfield and Northbrook. To my best understanding it is used for spiritual retreats and as a visitor’s center. Away from the main building is a replica of the Manger of Christ. Above the Manger is a large six-sided star that shines brightly at night.

It is the Star of David that identifies the Jewish people. As a Jew, seeing the star surprised me, but in a good way. I hadn’t seen this before in my seventy-odd years. I called the Towers and was directed to an elderly priest who explained that displaying the Star of David over the Manger was intended and not a mistake. He then went on to explain the history. How wonderfully symbolic as an expression of the Holiday’s true meaning. Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men.
