*Most restaurants on Devon are closed on Tuesdays. On Fridays, many Muslim-owned businesses close from 1 to 2 p.m. for prayer services.

*A thali (pronounced TAHL-lee) is a large steel platter containing smaller round bowls of rice, chutney, naan, dal (boiled lentils) — you name it. It’s the ultimate Indian sampler.

*Is your face on fire from spiciness? Don’t drink water. Cool it down first with lassi, the yogurt drink that comes salted or sweet (mango’s the best). Then chew on naan bread.

*Feeling adventurous? Consider

the bheja or gurda fry (brains or

kidneys) at Daata Darbar. Or the chakna special every Tuesday at Al-Madina — a stew of goat stomach, tongue and liver.

*Most Muslim-owned restaurants don’t serve or allow alcohol at their restaurants. Many Hindu-owned restaurants will let customers bring in a bottle.
