Township High School District 211 will soon look into the possibility of videotaping meetings, broadcasting them and streaming them live on its website.

Board member Bill Robertson has asked Superintendent Nancy Robb to investigate the cost and other considerations. The district, which comprises Conant, Fremd, Hoffman Estates, Palatine and Schaumburg high schools, is the largest high school district in the state.

“Many people in the community have expressed to me an interest in the videotaping of board meetings,” Robertson said Thursday.

A few years ago, the board looked into taping meetings but decided not to. Robertson said that because there are new members on the board, including him, the issue should be revisited.

A presentation to the board is expected at its Oct. 13 meeting.

Several school districts in the area, including Barrington District 220 and St. Charles District 303, tape their meetings for broadcast on local cable channels or for streaming over the Internet.

In response to requests, Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 recently began taping its meetings for use on its website. Nearby Niles Township High School District 219 has aired its monthly meetings on a local cable channel since the 1980s.

But several districts have declined to tape meetings because of costs or other reasons. Schaumburg-based District 54, which feeds into District 211, decided not to tape meetings in part because not all cable access channels in the district were willing to show them.
