Evergreen Park police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who was found fatally shot lying on a garage floor in the southwest suburban community.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m., Evergreen Park officers responded to a call of a person shot in a garage on the 2600 block of West 99th Street, officials said in a press release.
When they arrived, officers were led to a garage and found a teen lying on the floor. Paramedics were called to the scene and the youth was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m., police said.
After a preliminary investigation and interviews of several juvenile witnesses, police determined the boy brought the weapon to the location and his wounds were being considered self-inflicted.
The youth was identified as being 17 year-old who lived in Beverly on the city’s Southwest Side, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy determined the teen died of a gunshot wound in a suicide.
