“The Amazing Race” exec producer Bertram van Munster is partnering with Bellator Fighting Championships to create an unscripted mixed martial arts reality show for Spike.
The hourlong series, targeted for 2013, will provide an additional showcase from the fighters for Spike, which will be airing Bellator events after Fox took over rights to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the second half of last year.
“Some of the most physically-gifted and fascinating athletes in the world fight in Bellator, and I believe they make ideal subjects for an innovative new non-scripted series,” van Munster said.
Elise Doganieri will exec produce the upcoming series with van Munster. Spike TV exec veep of original programming Sharon Levy said that the concept “will broadly appeal to not only mixed martial arts fans, but to reality show enthusiasts as well.”
