MELBOURNE, April 6 (Reuters) – Australia’s Anna Meares was
dramatically relegated after winning the second round of her
semi-final against Victoria Pendleton, allowing the Briton to
contest a third round to book a place in the title decider on
Friday.
Reigning world champion Meares thought she had wrapped up
the best-of-three semi-final 2-0, winning the first race in
dramatic circumstances as the Olympic champion crashed at high
speed in the final straight after making contact with the
Australian.
Meares then stormed home in the second round but officials
relegated Meares for moving into Pendleton’s line, awarding the
round to the Briton and levelling the series 1-1.
The pair will complete the deciding race later on Friday.
