ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan freshman point guard Trey Burke has decided to remain in school and won’t yet test the NBA draft waters.
Burke averaged 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists in his first season with the Wolverines. He helped Michigan to a record of 24-10 with a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship.
“I have so much more to develop as both a student and athlete, and there is no better place to do that than here at Michigan,” Burke said Monday. “I love my Michigan family and am really excited about playing with my teammates and our incoming freshmen. I want to thank my parents, my teammates and my coaches for the patience and guidance they gave me since this process began a few weeks ago.”
Burke was named the Big Ten’s top freshman by the league’s media and was an All-Big Ten second-team selection. His 156 assists were the most by a Michigan freshman, breaking the mark of 140 set by Gary Grant in 1984-85.
