Illinois basketball coach John Groce has filled out his top assistants staff by adding Missouri’s Isaac Chew, according to a source.
Chew, a Chicago native, worked as an assistant at Missouri last season after serving four seasons at Murray State. He coached his alma mater (Avila) from 1999-01 and rejoined the team in 2004 after spending six years working as a finance director in the corporate world.
He also coached at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa before joining Murray State in 2007.
Chew was named the Public League Blue West Player of the Year at Wells High School and began his college career at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1994-96.
Groce already named Dustin Ford and Jamall Walker, who had coached with him at Ohio.
Ramon Williams, a former DePaul assistant who also worked on the Ohio staff with Groce, is likely to be considered as an addition to the staff as well.
