Huge baseball salaries show other teams can play Yankees’
game
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Alex Rodriguez and the New York
Yankees normally incur the wrath of fans bothered by baseball’s
enormous salaries. This year he has more company among players
with very large, very long deals worth tens of millions of
dollars. Superstar Albert Pujols arrived at Yankee Stadium on
Friday for his first game here as a member of the Los Angeles

Harrison pitches Rangers to victory in Minnesota
APRIL 13 – (Reuters) – Matt Harrison pitched the Texas
Rangers to their sixth win in eight games, holding the
Minnesota Twins to a single run over eight innings in a 4-1
victory on Friday. The two-time defending American League
champions pushed across three runs in the fourth to give
Harrison all the support he needed, as the left-hander struck
out four and walked two while yielding seven hits.

Dodgers sale and plan to exit bankruptcy approved
WILMINGTON, Del./LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The Los Angeles
Dodgers’ sale to a group led by basketball legend Earvin
”Magic” Johnson for $2.1 billion and the Major League Baseball
team’s plan to exit Chapter 11 this month were approved by a
U.S. bankruptcy judge on Friday. The approval was needed by
midnight to allow the team to exit bankruptcy by April 30 and
provide the cash for outgoing owner Frank McCourt to meet a
deadline for paying his ex-wife Jamie McCourt about $130
million.
Rain dents Oosthuizen charge in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – U.S. Masters runner-up Louis
Oosthuizen had his second round charge at the Malaysian Open
lead halted on Friday when thunderstorms and heavy rain ended
play early at the European and Asian Tour event. Oosthuizen was
two-under-par after 12 holes of his round at the Kuala Lumpur
Golf and Country Club for a eight-under total.

Formula 1 says Bahrain race to go ahead despite tension
MANAMA/SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Thousands of Bahrainis staged
an anti-government rally on Friday after an announcement that
the Bahrain Grand Prix motor race would go ahead despite
security concerns after a year of unrest in the Gulf Arab
state. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) gave the
green light after some doubt that the prestigious Formula One
event, cancelled in Bahrain last year amid a violent crackdown
on pro-democracy demonstrators, was on.
