Timberwolves’ Love says he wants to play Sunday
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love finally made it up off his back and out of his darkened room Tuesday, six days after he sustained a concussion in a game at Denver.
He stopped by Tuesday’s home loss to Memphis long enough to say he still hopes to play again this season, which now has just three games and eight days left.
Until Tuesday, all Love had felt like doing since last Wednesday was sleep, stay off his feet and out of the light because of headaches and other symptoms suffered after Nuggets center JaVale McGee inadvertently elbowed him in the head.
He hasn’t used his phone much and has stayed off his computer, too.
“Today is the first day I didn’t feel disoriented,” he said.
He also barely has watched television, although he did try to do so on Monday night when he turned on the Wolves game at halftime and saw they trailed 64-30.
“I immediately turned it off,” he said.
Love said he expects to pass a series of NBA-mandated progressive tests to prove he is symptom free.
He said he wants to play Sunday against Golden State and next Thursday in the season finale against Denver, but he also said he’s aware there’s no need to risk his health given the nature of his injury.
Love said he banged his head in Madrid while playing for the U.S. World Championship team in 2010.
“But I’ve never really had a head injury before,” he said. “It’s different.”
