OAKLAND, Calif. — Chicago White Sox minor leaguer Charlie Shirek was named the International League pitcher of the week for April 16-22.
Shirek, 26, allowed one run in 13 innings covering two starts for Triple-A Charlotte. Shirek pitched six shutout innings against Durham on April 16, and then threw seven innings of three-hit ball against first-place Gwinnett on Saturday.
Shirek is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA with 19 strikeouts and four walks in 24 innings.
