Tim Jankovich, who guided Illinois State to the brink of an NCAA tournament berth last season, has accepted a coach-in-waiting position under SMU coach Larry Brown, a source said.

The deal is expected to be in the $700,000 range a year, according to the source.

There is no predetermined time for when Jankovich, who is expected to earn $700,000 a year, would replace for Brown. Illinois State was 21-14 last season and fell to creighton in overtime in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament final
