Comcast and Verizon Wireless said Monday they will be cross-selling each other’s services in the Chicagoland market, expanding a partnership launched earlier this year on the West Coast.
Locally, the partnership covers Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Verizon and Comcast are rivals in several markets nationwide, competing to offer TV, high-speed Internet and digital home phone services. However, Verizon’s FiOS service is not available in the Chicago area. Instead, Comcast competes locally with AT&T’s U-Verse service.
The companies said new and existing customers of Comcast and Verizon Wireless could be eligible for incentives, such as Visa prepaid cards worth up to $300 or 12-month upgrades to bigger data packages for residential Internet and 4G LTE wireless service. The companies said Chicago is one of six markets to be covered by the expansion of the partnership; other cities include Atlanta and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Comcast is headquartered in Philadelphia and Verizon Wireless is based in Basking Ridge, N.J.
