Beltre remains out with leg injury

So, just how bad is third baseman Adrian Beltre’s leg injury?

Beltre was out of the Texas Rangers lineup for a third straight game with leg soreness Friday

as the Rangers fell 6-3 to Cleveland. The club acknowledged he underwent his second MRI

exam of the last 10 days earlier in the week. On the other hand, however, they keep

reiterating that it’s a minor injury that won’t send him to the DL.

Manager Ron Washington acknowledged that Beltre underwent his second MRI in a two-week

span after leaving the road-trip opener at Toronto late in Monday’s game. Washington,

however, said the MRI was “exactly the same” as the one performed about 10 days ago

following a scare in Detroit.

The Rangers said Beltre was day-to-day Friday. Beltre, who has missed five games over

the last two weeks, said going on the disabled list was not an option.

“There’s some minor stuff there,” Beltre said. “It’s not good enough to play today, but

it’s not bad enough to go on the DL. It feels a little better.”

Washington said if Beltre reports to Progressive Field on Saturday feeling good enough

to play, he will play him. Washington gives most players an extra day off once they say

they are ready to return to the lineup. The Rangers have struggled this year without

Beltre. They are 1-5 in games he has not started.

Washington also said he will use extra diligence in monitoring Beltre going forward,

particularly during the next 20 days when the Rangers do not have a day off. He said

Beltre may DH more regularly than usual.
