Workers at a Caterpillar Joliet plant on strike since May 1 are scheduled to vote on a new contract proposal Wednesday.
“There has not been an agreement reached, but there is a vote Wednesday,” said Timothy O’Brien, president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 851. He declined to comment further.
Roughly 800 workers walked out after rejecting a proposed six-year contract that would freeze their wages, double health care premiums and eliminate pensions and seniority rights.
Rusty Dunn, a Caterpillar spokesman, confirmed that the company had modified its proposal. “We are not offering any details/specifics concerning the proposal,” he added.
