RF Josh Harrison extended his hitting streak to 10 games, a span in which he is 13 for 38.
1B Matt Hague, recalled in place of departed OF Nate McLouth, will get a string of starts, manager Clint Hurdle said, as management tries desperately to squeeze something out of its offense. Hague, 26, had eight home runs in the spring, but a 1-for-9 start to the season got him sent back to the minors. After a slow start in the minors — “I think I was trying too hard,” Hague said — he bounced back to bat .278. He went 0 for 3 Friday.
C Rod Barajas went 2 for 4 with an RBI single the other way on Friday, continuing a tear in which he’s batting .389 (14-for-36).
RHP A.J. Burnett pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings for the victory Friday, allowing six hits. Since a 12-run blowup earlier this month, Burnett has allowed only six runs over 28 1/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 4.19.
OF Nate McLouth was designated for assignment by the Pirates. He batted .140 with two doubles, two RBI, 18 strikeouts and five walks.
