I’ve always been single.
In 2003, when I was age 67, I was playing the organ at church on a Sunday. I saw a man walk in with his guitar; he played for part of the service. We chatted afterward. A few weeks later he called me, asking me to dinner, so we went out to dinner, and I had a wonderful time. We kept going out, and after eight weeks he asked me to marry him. One year later we were married. Now it’s eight years later, and I’m still madly in love with him.

My husband and I started dating
in high school and every time we get into the car since then, he has always opened the car door for me. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, and he still opens the car door, store doors or lets me be first whenever we go out. He is a true gem.

I have always been afraid
of thunderstorms. My husband knew that and would challenge my fears by having me sit on the porch with him and watch the approaching storms. When he became paralyzed as cancer invaded his spine, we could no longer sit on the porch and I had bigger fears. But when we had thunderstorms that shook the whole house, he would hold my hand to protect and calm me. He has been gone for over three years but when it storms, I still feel his loving touch and it helps me deal with thunderstorms and life.

Needing a date
for homecoming, I went to the campus dance. I found one and knew I was going to marry her. I was going to ask her on Monday but that day a friend said he had a girl he wanted me to ask to homecoming because his girlfriend was coming down and was going to be staying with her. I said I had a girl already to ask. He would not back off. The more we talked, the more we realized it was the same girl. It was fate. We will be married 43 years this summer.
