“Cosmo’s 500 Secrets About Men” (Hearst Books), from the editors of Cosmopolitan magazine, attempts to illuminate us — and doesn’t do a bad job of roping readers in with the buff guy on the book cover. Behind the covers, so to speak, things get a little more serious (or not) with an array of factoids on deciphering men.
Here are a few insights the editors have gleaned from the pages of their magazine:
*Eighty-four percent of men say they prefer being attached to being single.
*If he gets along with your parents, he’s less likely to stray.
*Researchers have found that men who do stuff around the house (wash the dishes, take out the trash) have more sex.
*Work stress can zap a man’s desire: It’s the No. 1 reason guys say they turn down sex.
When a guy wants to break up with you, he’ll start to create space. A key sign: He texts less, and it takes him longer to respond to yours.
*Top signs he isn’t over his ex: He compares you to her — and you could pass as her twin.

One of the most irresistible chapters in “Cosmo’s 500 Secrets” is titled “Guy Confessions.” It’s just a series of anonymous quotes that hit a nerve. Here are a few:
