Yale 63, Buffalo 59: Justin Sears scored 19 points as the Bulldogs held off the Bulls in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
Austin Morgan finished with 16 points â?? including a pair of critical free throws late â?? for Yale (1-3), which ended its season-opening, three-game skid.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 points with 4:40 left before the break, but watched their advantage dwindle as Javon McCrea and Jarod Oldham combined to score all 11 of Buffaloâ??s points over the remainder of the half while the Bulldogs were limited to only a pair of free throws from Sears.
Yale could not establish anything more than a seven-point margin for the remainder of the game as the Bulls tied it at 55 with 2:37 remaining. But Javier Duren hit a 3-pointer before Sears and Morgan closed Buffalo (1-4) out with five points over the final 32 seconds to preserve the victory.
McCrea scored 17 points and Oldham chipped in 16 for the Bulls.
