Recap: Kentucky 81, Morehead State 70
No. 7 Kentucky 81, Morehead State 70: Freshman guard Archie Goodwin scored a career-high 28 points to help the Wildcats shake the visiting Eagles in the second half.
Goodwin, who went 8-of-13 from the floor and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line, put the Wildcats (3-1) ahead for good with a layup off a steal by Nerlens Noel with 13:12 left. That was part of a 16-2 run that gave Kentucky a 60-50 lead midway through the second half.
Freshman Alex Poythress added 20 points for Kentucky for his third-straight 20-point performance.
The Eagles (3-2) had an early 16-0 run and led 23-12 after Milton Chavis’ 3-pointer with 6:09 left in the first half. After a timeout, the Wildcats went on a 16-4 run – with eight points from Poythress – to regain the lead.
Chavis led the Eagles for the fifth straight game with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kentucky is 10-0 against Morehead State and 35-0 against the Ohio Valley Conference … The Eagles were called for 32 fouls and Kentucky hit 31 of 41 free throws … The Wildcats blocked 11 shots after recording 18 in their first three games.
