An autopsy report today revealed that a 90-year-old woman who was found decomposed inside her home on the city’s South Side died of heart disease and elder neglect in a homicide.
Della Cotton, of the 400 block of West Marquette Road, was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m. today at the Stein Institute, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy this afternoon listed heart disease as a primary cause of death and elder neglect as a secondary cause, according to the report.
Cotton’s death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
There was no immediate information available from police or the City of Chicago Department of Aging about Cotton’s death.
