Former Hinsdale South pitcher Mike Merrera, a freshman at Roosevelt University, is going through some growing pains with college hitters.
But the good news is that though his ERA was a high 9.15 in his first eight collegiate appearances, he has a couple of victories under his belt for a team that is struggling to find the win column.
Merrera’s 2-1 record tied him with teammate Sam Cook for most wins on the team through 34 games as the Lakers entered this week with a 9-25 mark.
