Officials in Wilmette said Monday that they expect to break ground in October on the $16.6 million West Park Sanitary Storage project.
The West Park project, which is a key component of the village’s Stormwater Action Plan, includes construction of a 5.5 million gallon reservoir under West Park that will store sewer overflow during heavy rain storms, said Brigitte A. Berger, the village’s director of engineering.
With the Wilmette Village Board expected to formally approve an intergovernmental agreement with the village’s park district Tuesday, Berger said the final tab for the project will cost roughly $2 million less than anticipated.
“We can’t solve all the problems, but this project can greatly reduce the sanitary sewer backups for 1,300 homes,” Berger said.
