TV/radio: 2:30 p.m. Saturday; ABC-7, WGWG-FM 87.7.
Line: Northwestern by 101/2.
Records: Cal 1-11 last season, Northwestern 5-7.
Last meeting: Northwestern won 44-30 on Aug. 31, 2013, in Berkeley.
On the offensive: Veteran Treyvon Green will start at tailback, but freshman Justin Jackson might get the chance to shine. Trevor Siemian is finally NU’s every-down quarterback.
Getting defensive: The Bears — like those in Chicago — had big-time trouble on defense in 2013. Cal hired a new defensive coordinator, Art Kaufman, to simplify things.
The number: 450. Cal quarterback Jared Goff threw for 450 yards against Northwestern last year in his first college game. But he needed 64 attempts to get there.
The talk: Without an experienced kicker — or even a scholarship kicker — the Wildcats will be tempted to go for glory on fourth-and-short.
Teddy Greenstein‘s pick: Coach Pat Fitzgerald caught some flak for resting starters for chunks of fall camp. But, hey, he is 8-0 in season openers.
Northwestern 38, Cal 30.
