Road Tripping: 100 years of named highways and good roads

Before interstates and federal highways were distinguished by numbers, roads were christened with colorful names that reflected the personality of the land surrounding it. In a program at 7 p.m. Sept. 19, Larry McClellan presents how changes in American culture and society have impacted transportation in Illinois. The program is part of the Terminal Town Exhibit through Sept. 30, an exhibit showcasing Chicago’s air, bus, and rail terminals of the past with color maps, photos, and fun facts. Terminal Town is a program of the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University in cooperation with Lake Forest College and generous sponsors. No registration is necessary for the free event. The class takes place at the Orland Park Public Library, 14921 Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. For information, call 708-428-5115 or go to orlandparklibrary.org.
