Construction is due to begin this summer on a gun store and shooting range and a multitenant commercial building approved by the Mokena Village Board Monday.
Trustees approved zoning changes and a special use for the Live Fire Gun Club and Shooting Range at 18810 88th Ave., in the Corporate Corridors Business Park.
Community Development Director Alan Zordan said the 31,000-square-foot building will house a gun store, 20 general shooting ranges, as well as private ranges for club members and five rifle ranges. It also will house a classroom and facilities for police testing and concealed-carry classes, he said.
Under the special use agreement, the business will be at least 500 feet away from any residences, schools or day care centers and cannot be sold to a third party without village approval, Zordan said. He added that the Police Department will inspect the business regularly.
Trustees also approved plans for a commercial building at 19200 LaGrange Road in the Meridian Center.
