Deerfield and Highland Park entertainment calendar of events for the week beginning Dec. 4:

Ceramic Saturday

Stop by Jewett Park Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 6 for Richard Cohen’s Ceramic Workshop – Holiday Special. Parents and children are welcomed to participate in the class together. This event is $35 per person and geared toward adults and children ages 6 and older. Jewett Park Community Center is at 836 Jewett Park Drive in Deerfield. For details, call 847-945-0650.

Highwood lights up

Part of a yearly array of events called “Celebrate Highwood,” the town will host its first tree-lighting ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6. Plenty of activities will be on hand, including making s’mores, taking pictures with Santa Claus and holiday caroling. Holiday hymns

Now in its 36th year, the Highland Park Strings, along with the Lincoln Trio, will perform a holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Dec. 7. The show takes place at Highland Park High School and is free. Highland Park High School is located at 433 Vine Ave. For details, call 847-831-3622.

Seasonal show

Students of the Irina Makkai Classical Ballet and Dance School will perform the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” at 4 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7. Admission is $20.
