What to eat and drink this weekend:

Friday: Ice skating at Parson’s Chicken and Fish (2952 W. Armitage Ave., 773-384-3333)

Stay out in the cold and take a whirl on the brand new ice skating rink at Parson’s Chicken and Fish ($5), which opens tonight. A 30-skater max should keep the rink from getting too packed, but if the summertime crowds are any indication of the potential popularity, it could be quite a wait. A special menu is promised and skaters can eat on the ice.

Saturday: Swedish sweets at Andersonville’s St. Lucia Festival of Lights

Following the 4:45 p.m. procession honoring St. Lucia down Clark Street in Andersonville, sample traditional Swedish Christmas sweets at the Swedish American Museum (5211 N. Clark St.), including pepparkakor, a ginger snap cookie. Admission is $1 or a canned food item to be donated to Care for Real.

Sunday: 18th Street Brewery’s one-year anniversary (5725 Miller Ave., Gary, Ind., 219-939-8802)

Raise your glass and toast the Gary craft brewery’s first anniversary. The birthday party goes from noon to 10 p.m. in the family-friendly tap room with music, special releases from 18th street, beer from guest breweries, and food.
