Frankfort trustees on Tuesday signed off on $266,000 in spending, took a small step aimed at improving traffic safety and gained access to a new economic development tool.

The village board approved a $234,000 contract with AM-Coat Painting, of Homer Glen, to paint and make repairs to the water tower in the Prestwick subdivision.

Another $32,000 will go to Strand Associates, of Joliet, to cover the village’s share of a $160,000 engineering study on upgrading the St. Francis Road bridge over Union Ditch. Village Administrator Jerry Ducay said the project, which attracted a $1 million federal grant, likely won’t break ground until 2016.
