In LaGrange Highlands District 106, the number of write-in votes for both Chris Johnson and Neil De Simone is expected to be known April 8, said Courtney Greve, with the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

Results for the contest between two write-in candidates in LaGrange Highlands Elementary District 106 won’t be known for two to three weeks following the April 7 election, a Cook County election official said.

Unofficial returns showed voters marked their ballots for incumbent Bob Hiatt who won a second term, and newcomer Jennifer Fessett-Gusentine, a speech pathologist, with 51.6 percent of the votes cast and Board President Bob Hiatt with 48.3 percent.

The total number of write-in votes for both Chris Johnson, who ran unsuccessfully for the board two years ago, and Neil De Simone is expected to be known April 8, said Courtney Greve, with the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

But specific results for each candidate won’t be determined until after votes are canvassed and mailed ballots are counted, Greve said. Canvassing is likely to begin April 14, and mailed ballots have until April 21 to arrive as long as they were postmarked by April 6, she said.

“We do have three weeks after election day to finalize results,” Greve said.

The clerk’s office noted Cook County voters requested a record 15,308 ballots by mail, an increase of 79.7 percent over the 2013 election.
