A woman was stopped by a man who identified himself as a Streamwood police officer and then took money from her purse, according to a release from the Streamwood Police Department.

According to police, the woman was driving on a side street near Schaumburg Road and Route 59 late afternoon on Thursday, Aug. 6, when she was stopped by what she thought was a police officer driving an unmarked, dark-color Ford with a red and blue light bar activated on the dashboard.

She said the man identified himself as a Streamwood police officer and ordered her out of the car, according to the release. He then took her purse and removed an undetermined amount of cash.

The man is described as a Hispanic in his 20s, with a large build and wearing a navy blue uniform shirt and pants, the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Streamwood Police Department at 630-736-3700.
