National Park Service police are searching for a hiker who went missing in Western Maryland in late July.
Police said Ritchard Temple was hiking along the C&O Canal towpath on July 25, traveling from the Harper’s Ferry area to the canal’s terminus in Cumberland.
Police believe he had begun his return trip to Harper’s Ferry and last spoke with his family when he was in Town Creek, an area of the park about 5 miles east of Oldtown.
Police said Temple may have camped near Town Creek.
Temple is described as a white man in his 50s, about 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. His hair is blondish gray and he wears glasses. Police said he walks with a limp and uses a cane or a walking stick as an aid. He also has “limited use of his right arm,” according to police.
Anyone who may have come in contact with Temple along the trail can call the National Park Service at 301-714-2235.
