A Michigan man was injured Friday afternoon after witnesses said he fell from his motorcycle on Interstate 94 near Portage, authorities said.

A motorcyclist from Ypsilanti, Mich., was driving west on I-94 just before 2 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the 2002 BMW motorcycle he was riding and crashed at the 19.3 mile marker.

The bike and driver came to a stop in between the interstate and exit ramp at State Road 249. The man was wearing a helmet. He was transported to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police the man appeared to fall from his motorcycle for unknown reasons. Trooper John Holmen said the motorcyclist’s helmet made direct contact with the road.
