Mayors honored
Former Evanston mayors James C. Lytle and the late Joan Barr-Smith will be honored in separate city ceremonies with rooms at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center renamed in their honor, the city announced Tuesday.
In the first ceremony, the Evanston City Council chambers will be renamed in honor of former Mayor James C. Lytle at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept.. 21 at the civic center, 2100 Ridge Ave..
Meanwhile, the adjacent Aldermanic library will be renamed in memory of Barr-Smith at a ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, also at the civic center.
City splits cost with senior center fundraising
“Get on the Bus!” is the theme for a fundraiser that will be held at the Levy Senior Center, in support of a volunteer group’s efforts to raise matching funds with the city to buy a new center bus. The Levy Senior Center Foundation and The Dennis Newton Fund are sponsoring the event to be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, at the center, 300 Dodge Ave.
