Triton College has started the search for its next president — and one of the candidates is already familiar with the job.
Triton College’s interim President Mary-Rita Moore, who was appointed to the position in January, plans to apply for the full-time job.
When a Pioneer Press reporter reached out to ask Moore if she wanted to planned to apply for the position, Triton’s spokeswoman, Alicia Roberson, emailed a statement in response.
“Interim President Mary-Rita Moore has expressed interest and plans to apply for the position of Triton College President,” Roberson wrote on behalf of the Interim President’s Office.
Despite Moore’s interest, the college has advertised the position on its website, media outlets and higher education job boards. The new president is anticipated to take over in January 2016.
Doug Olson, vice president of academic and student affairs at Triton College, said the search for a new president is not an ordinary one.
“We’re going beyond local to advertise for the president’s position,” Olson said.
Along with news publications like Chicago Tribune and Pioneer Press, they’re advertising through different old and new media outlets.
“We’ll have a number of ads in both local, suburban and in national publications and higher education periodicals like Community College Journal,” he said.
The college has created a special website advertising the position and how to apply for the position. Olson said they’ve also placed ads for the position on websites like HigherEdJobs.com and Careerbuilder.com, as well as in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Those interested in the position have until Oct. 2 to apply.
Officials say the candidate should have a doctorate degree and have progressive experience in higher education, including experience as a senior-level college administrator.
