Can you explain to me why the Bears passed on three consecutive plays when they were on the 2-yard line Sunday? Seems really questionable considering they were able to run the ball all day. I just don’t get it. — Paul B., Chicago, from email
The most simple explanation is they thought it those were the best calls at that time and coach John Fox said the issue was they needed to execute better.
Right tackle Kyle Long allowed a pressure on the second down play. They botched a screen pass on the third down play and that pass really should have been intercepted by Micah Hyde. On fourth down, there was a free runner up the middle that blew the play up.
After the game, quarterback Jay Cutler said the Bears didn’t believe they could run the ball against Green Bay’s front at that spot on the field. The Packers were loading up against the run there. No question, the Bears need to be more productive in the red zone.
I thought offensive coordinator Adam Gase called a pretty good game for the Bears and it’s rare that you’re going to get through a game with 71 offensive plays and not have some play calls that you nitpick afterward. I’m sure Gase wishes he had a few calls back.
