The tradition of covering the Larkin High School campus in toilet paper as a homecoming prank took a potentially dangerous turn Thursday night, when someone set a small, quickly extinguished fire to some of the paper hung by the school’s entrance, according to Elgin officials.
According to Mary Fergus, director of community relations for School District U46, the fire department was called, but the fire already was out by the time units arrived. While rumors circulated on social media, Fergus said no homecoming events had been canceled because of the incident.
