
When she’s not busy at work as the new district nurse for Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181, Kristin Katsenes, 28, enjoys many things, including playing ice hockey. She answered questions at Hinsdale Middle School.
Q: Why did you want to become a school nurse?
A: I was an oncology nurse before. I did a project with kids and really enjoyed it. I like the teaching aspect of it, and I’m very passionate about nutrition, so I thought this would be a great job for me.
Q: What’s the best part of your job?
A: Helping kids stay happy at school and the great families I work with.
Q: What’s the worst part of your job?
A: Getting sick a lot
Q: When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: An environmental scientist. I love nature and wild life.
Q: What would you be doing for work if you were not a nurse?
A: Probably something in wildlife or environmental science
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Orland Park
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: Gardening and playing ice hockey. I played hockey in college at the University of Illinois; I was a forward. I play pond hockey now and want to be a goalie.
Q: What’s on the menu for your birthday dinner?
A: Pizza, deep dish with cheese and pepperoni, ice tea, and chocolate ice cream

A: Italian sub
Q: What’s your favorite candy bar?
A: Snickers, frozen
Q: Who should play you in a movie about your life.
A: Rachel McAdams; my sister says I look like her
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Yellow; it’s like the sunshine
Q: What’s number one on your bucket list?
A: Visiting Europe
Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?
A: Doing nothing all day on Sunday
Q: Cubs or Sox?
A: Neither. I don’t like baseball. I like hockey and the Blackhawks.
