The story of Larycia Hawkins and her suspension has been a surprise to me. When I first read the headline, I thought maybe she was trying too hard to make a statement or wanted political attention to bash Christians, but upon reading the story I was a bit taken aback. I do see the point of those who ridicule her — in the sense that Christians and Muslims do not worship the same religion, but can we not say they are similar in at least a few aspects?

I thought her idea of supporting Muslims could be a noble one if conducted politely, and I think her morals could be a learning point for many students who have problems with understanding other cultures. It would have been a better idea to notify Wheaton College beforehand, but it is surprising that she has taken so much flak for a kind gesture.
