The culture of Jamaica will come alive for families when the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, presents “Three Little Birds,” 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.

Michael J. Bobbitt adapted the musical from Cedella Marley’s book of the same name. It’s the story of an eleven-year-old Jamaican boy who is terrified of hurricanes, mongooses and other natural things, as well as a bogeyman known for stealing people’s hair.

The show features the music of the late legendary reggae musician Bob Marley, who was the author’s father.

Bobbitt said he took on this project because, “I like to do shows that celebrate culture. Here’s a great show about the culture of Jamaica and how wonderful it is.”

In working on this project, Bobbitt discovered that Bob Marley wrote, “so many great songs that are very, very kid-friendly. The tunes are great and the rhythms are great.”

Tickets are $10-$18.
