Shopping at Naperville Crossings will be a little sweeter this summer with the opening of Andy’s Frozen Custard.

Naperville City Council members recently approved plans for the Springfield, Mo.-based frozen custard business to open a shop at 3103 W. 95th St. Andy’s, whose menu includes a variety of frozen custard concrete mixers and sundaes, already has five locations in Illinois, including Bolingbrook, Burbank, Countryside, Oak Lawn and Evanston.

In addition to Naperville, plans are under way to open the dessert-only restaurants in Oswego and Mt. Prospect. Andy’s also is considering possible locations in Schaumburg, Glen Ellyn, Elgin, Orland Park and Downer’s Grove.

“We’re always trying to get a bigger foothold in the Chicagoland market,” said Charlie Buchanan, Andy’s marketing manager.

“We feel at home up there,” he said. “It really feels like the communities just embrace us quickly.”

The Naperville store plans were unanimously approved by city council members with only minor changes requested for landscaping and bike racks.

“I’m so excited that they’re coming because this is going to be great,” Councilwoman Patricia Gustin said at a recent council meeting.

Andy’s first Illinois shop opened in Bolingbrook in 2006. The company, which celebrated its 30th anniversary on March 30, has 29 locations in five states including Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Illinois.

The company has a mix of franchise and corporate locations. In Illinois, all the locations — either already opened or soon to open — are corporate shops.
