After taking a beating from flood water and out-of-control cars, the old gate at the south entrance to the waste water treatment plant in Plano will be replaced.

A new gate and opener to cost $10,626 will be installed at the plant on the southeast side of town.

Water Reclamation Director Darrin Boyer explained that numerous incidents of flooding in the area have damaged the existing gate along with the problem of cars sliding into it during the winter, resulting in the need to bend it back into place to operate. During colder weather the gate cannot be fully opened, he said.

The city solicited bids from five area contractors, only two of which submitted quotations. Northern Illinois Fence of Cortland submitted the winning proposal for $10,626. This will include an automated system, featuring double cantilever slide gates.

Boyer said that he will look into adding protective devices such as concrete posts to help protect the new gate from wayward drivers.
