Two men were shot late Wednesday night as they sat in a car in the parking lot of an Aurora Township apartment complex.

Neither of the men live at the complex in the 1600 block of Reckinger Road, in the unincorporated portion of Aurora Township. One lives in Aurora and the other in St. Charles, Kane County sheriff’s office spokesman Patrick Gengler said in an email. They do know each other, he said.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to the Aurora Police Department, where the two men had driven themselves after the shooting. The men told Kane County investigators they had been sitting in a car in the apartment complex parking lot when an unknown subject approached the car and started shooting. Both men were hit and sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office. From the police department, the men were transported to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

Detectives recovered undisclosed evidence of the shooting in the parking lot where it happened. At least one other car was also hit by the gunfire, but it was parked and unoccupied, Gengler said.

The sheriff’s office has no subjects in custody and no suspect information. Investigators are still trying to establish a motive for the shooting but think it is most likely drug-related and not gang-related, Gengler said. They “have not ruled out that the sale or purchase of illegal drugs played a role in this shooting,” according to officials.

Kane County detectives ask anyone with information about the incident to call 630-444-1103.
