Families from Norridge and the surrounding communities will have a chance to participate in the third annual Norridge Park District Community Camp Out.

The event takes place from 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5 to 7 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Norridge Park District grounds, 4631 N. Overhill Ave.

The overnight event will allow family campers to bring their tents, sleeping bags, propane grills and food in a camp-like setting. The park district will charge $7 per camp site.

One of the best reasons someone should attend the event, according to the park district’s Superintendent of Recreation Karyn Roth, is that “it is something different for families to enjoy at a reasonable price.” She said the event came about when the “park district wanted to create additional recreational opportunities with one of the existing events.”

Roth said the Camp Out “provides an opportunity for Norridge and surrounding communities to experience outdoor recreation in a park right in their back yard, giving families an opportunity to connect and bond at a local park.”

Roth also said that activities will include family friendly games, a face painter from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and a movie “Goosebumps” shown on the big screen in the park. She also added that the park district will provide a light breakfast.

Lending community support to the event, are police and fire departments and the Eisenhower Public Library, who will be on hand to provide safe family activities between 6:30 p.m. and midnight.

Roth had advice for first-time families who are going to attend.

“It’s a great opportunity to try something new and meet other individuals from the community,’ she said.

While coolers are allowed on the park district grounds, alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the grounds as well as in the facilities. Pets will also not be allowed, Roth said.

Roth added that “if there is inclement weather, we cancel the event. Determination would be made that day.”
